Lord Mayor Graham Quirk July 2015 Newsletter: “Brisbane City Council is partnering with TransLink to trial new accessible, interactive touch screen units at four ferry terminals, enabling passengers of all abilities to access live timetable information and emergency assistance at the touch of a button.
Council is committed to providing safe and accessible services for residents and visitors, and this brand new technology will ensure our services are innovative and informative. The development of these new Emergency and Information Call Point units is the outcome of extensive consultation and collaboration between Council, Brisbane disability reference groups, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, and Queensland Rail.
The $280,000 project will see the touch screen units installed at Norman Park, Hawthorne, Bulimba, and Thornton Street ferry terminals. The screens can display transport service information, such as the next upstream and downstream ferry services, and at the touch of a button customers can access detailed timetable information. The units also include emergency assistance capabilities, which links customers to Council’s 24/7 security centre.
This year marks the completion of Council’s $100 million investment into the city’s river terminals, which saw the delivery of 11 new or upgraded terminals. We have also committed more than $1 million this year to kick off the CityCat re-life program, which will see the refurbishment of our oldest vessels.”
