Brisbane City Council re-opened our Hawthorne Ferry & CityCat Terminal on 6 June 2015 after six months of upgrade works. The works involved upgrading the ferry & citycat terminal, which has been operational for more than 85 years & used by approximately 4,000 people each week. In addition, restoration works were undertaken on the heritage-listed waiting pavilion to ensure it will be preserved for generations to come.
The Hawthorne Ferry & CityCat Terminal upgrade involved:
• Dismantling & removing the existing pontoon, gangway & piles
• Installing 30 new piles
• Constructing a new waiting area, gangway & dual-berth pontoon
• Providing three overnight mooring locations for CityCats
• Temporarily relocating the heritage-listed waiting pavilion then reinstalling the pavilion on new concrete foundations at a higher level to prevent inundation on very high tides
• Improvements to access paths & drop-off area adjacent to Hardcastle Park.
The upgrade has increased ferry berthing capacity, improved efficiency, improved flood resilience, increased the amount of shelter & provided better access for people with mobility impairments. Brisbane City Council thanked the community for our patience while they completed this important upgrade to Brisbane’s ferry & citycat network.
Timetables are available on TransLink‘s website at www.translink.com.au & http://jp.translink.com.au/travel-information/network-information/ferries/T/citycat as well as being displayed at the terminal & on CityCats & ferries. For further journey information call 13 12 30.
